CONTEXTUAL AND AUTHENTIC TEACHING

Sometimes students in the class have a question How useful what I am studying in the class. Furthermore student can not feel the suitability of lesson taught in the class with the world outside and also the teacher must have authentic communication between learners. This condition makes student fell boring in the class. Moreover the lesson taught in the class is not relevant to the work field. It appears a bad opinion “we have nothing in the class”. Studying is not for school but for life.
According to Hans Freudenthal a Dutch education expert stated that Education must direct the student to all condition of the world. It means that a lesson which is taught must have the suitability to the world outside. For example When the Kuningan Bombing occurred in Jakarta. The teacher of Islamic religion can bring a piece of the news about it and discuss the Terrorism issue in the class. The teacher of English can talk about how English is used on movie last night. A real world is needed to expand contextual situation in teaching and learning process.
An authentic communication is also needed in contextual teaching. An authentic communication must be authentic, reasonable, understandable and reliable. It can give student obvious view about what is taught So that the student will have comprehensively and massively understanding. When the teacher can not give authentic evidence, the student will feel confusing so the student can not understand comprehensively.
Contextual and authentic teachings are two requirement of modern education. Those can give us many useful. The student will have strongly understanding which is relevant to world. The students have learned life skill education in real condition so they will be easy joining to real life. They can understand all problems such as politic, economic and social happen in the real world.
An integrated lesson to world outside is expected to make student not bored in the class. Furthermore a curriculum that is synchronized to world outside and having authentic communication can make student easy to adapt and understand the student environment. Teacher made material should be related to world outside of classroom and have authentic communication between learners.
